Climate
The sub-tropical climate and fertile soils of the Mackay district makes it one of Australia’s prime sugarcane growing areas. The area receives, on average, 1500mm rainfall annually, mostly in the January to April “wet” season. Maximum temperatures in the dry winter months (May to September) range from 24 to 28 degrees C and 29 to 34 degrees C in the hot summer months (October to March).
